The islands of Hawaii are serving as a living test facility for renewable energy and they will soon be more than halfway to their goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045. With a historical reliance on expensive shipments of fuel oil and coal, the islands are uniquely motivated to find more advanced energy solutions.
Hopefully they will have success using PV to provide peaking power across the islands and to enhance the integration of distributed energy generation. Read more at Scientific American.
